Mightydeals is a dangerous website for me. Especially during the shopping frenzy time.
They offer fonts and other design resources at huge discounts all year round.
I love that stuff.
But I don’t go there very often anymore.
Specifically, I actively avoid visiting their site.
Because every time I am there and looking at things, my Idea Printer goes brrr…
I could use that font for project x, or wow, that looks cool, I could do a shiny new project with it. That would look cool on a cartoon shirt.
And brrr it goes on.
But instead of money, it prints ideas en mass.
And with every new idea, the overload in my mind gets bigger.
When I give in to the ideas and buy, my money is gone, I got the thing, and then there’s a massive chance of
Nothing will be done with it. It will just go on my hard drive.
I piled up enough of that.
Everybody has their version of Mightydeals. This one thing where it’s damn hard to resist buying when ideas hit and then letting it go to waste afterward.
I don’t know what’s piling up on your hard drive, in the closet, or at home. But I bet there is.
Luckily, we can learn from our past experiences and start to resist.
And it’s not that as hard as I am learning.
Asking myself honestly if I will act upon my idea in the next couple of days or not, solves it most of the time.
If it’s a no, the only answer is to resist, which is, in many cases, a simple “do not buy.”
It’s hard for the first few times, but as with everything, it gets easier the more you practice.
So, try it out when you get bombarded with the shopping frenzy in a few days.
If you do not need or will not use it in the following days or have a clear usage purpose, resist and do not buy.
With practice, it becomes easier.
And your mind lighter.
