I read a lot of stories where folks land in another world and somehow get leveling system like in games.
Suddenly, there’s a half-transparent screen like in a game with the character and stats, skills, items, etc.
And only they can see their stats screen.
When they take action, do missions, or train, they gain experience points, gain levels and their stats improve.
And they instantly see progress; the experience points.
Get feedback.
Get rewards.
And see improvements.
It’s almost instant feedback.
You see the success of your actions.
Sometimes I think it would be great to have such a thing in real life.
For us, it’s more like you do, do do do do, and do and depending on what you do you might go for a long time until you get feedback or even see success.
If I were to learn to dance, I might be clumsy at the beginning, have to remember the moves, train my body’s senses, etc.
But I see my failures and also my improvements. I get feedback along the way.
And I can work with that feedback.
It’s tough when there’s no timely feedback.
Building a business is such a case where you can have long periods without any feedback.
Let’s say you create a new blog around traveling. You start full of vigors, write the first 5 to 10 articles, publish them, and then crickets.
Nothing happens.
No rush of folks reading and liking it.
No feedback.
And here comes the hard part.
You either stick with it, or you quit.
Because of the lack of feedback, not the lack of success.
It’s simply too early.
Would you get experience points for writing articles, things were clear. You see progress. You continue.
In reality, you can either “just” trust the process and believe in it or focus on smaller parts where you can see improvements faster.
Like improving your writing. That’s something you can see for yourself and thus gives you feedback.
You gain experience points.
You just don’t see them.
Can we make them visible?
Maybe.
Got ideas?
