The downfall of the Jedis, the republic, and Anakin’s turning to the dark side was the Jedis’ fault.
Guess why.
Rigid doctrines.
Inability to adapt.
Ignoring part of human nature.
Detaching from too much, especially emotions.
And failing to guide folks who live through or want to live the full range of emotions.
If you detach yourself too much from your emotions, how will you be able to guide someone who’s going through strong ones?
Reciting your doctrines to them won’t help.
It’s also an issue with many “help advice” today.
People never having faced similar issues, advise others on a completely different path.
The “I’ve always been fit and into sports” advising the overweight guy to lose weight will often fail.
They’ve never been in their shoes.
They never even walked on the same path.
They can’t even grasp what the other is going through.
On the other hand, someone who went through the same/similar shit before can give way better advice. They know the feelings.
Now add an extra layer and imagine our fitness coach has detached himself too much from his emotions as the Jedis did.
He’d be totally void of empathy.
He wouldn’t even understand what his client is going through.
So, how could he successfully guide his client?
The good thing is, that his client will probably not join the dark side but instead quit or look elsewhere for real help.
But in the Star Wars story, it repelled Anakin over time and drove him to find other solutions and he essentially got lost in the dark side.
Now, what kind of guide are you for your surroundings?
