Politics are great for showing our blind spots, but they also bring the problem of people getting upset about politics and missing their blind spots.
Usually, I try to avoid it because of that reason. However, today’s an exception :-)
Let’s take the most prominent example, Trump.
Some were made to believe he’s THE Evil and will bring fascism and tyranny. And they hate everything around him and go to arm’s length to fight him, even with undemocratic methods.
While others are hyped that he’ll bring salvation and rid them of THE Evils of the left and their communist lunacies. And makes the country great again.
Whatever side you’re on, the problem is not Trump but the picture of him you created in your mind.
That picture is not the real person.
There’s a difference between your picture and the real person.
That difference can be huge.
Not only towards Trump but all the people around you.
Pictures of how they have to behave or what we believe is them. Or better, what we want to believe is them.
That’s why we get disappointed, angry, overlook obvious issues, etc
How dare you not behave like the picture I made of you in my mind.
Now, look at the people close to you and spot the differences.
