Join our free 5 Days To Being More Present challenge

People know when you're desperate

Initially, I wanted to write about “don’t trust anybody” and was looking for “Doing your own research” is bad bashing source but they topped it with their desperate move for money. So, I picked that for today’s email.

When you’re desperate, especially for money, it shows all over the place. Folks smell it and will avoid you.

But you can avoid that.

Most of the time, the big publishing sites present me with a nice banner that I can either consent to cookies and ads but can read for free or have to get a paid subscription to get fewer ads.

Others place their premium articles all over the place, and you can read the first paragraph for free and then beg for my money to continue reading.

Or others like Medium, offer a few free articles per month. And then beg for your money.

However, this time, I could actually read/skim the article but was then hit with dialog begging for money that you could not click away. Even reloading the page did not help. It stayed there. Preventing me from going anywhere else. All their menus and articles were hidden.

It was a buy now or click your back button situation.

Which made me pause for a moment.

They are pretty desperate.

And it shows.

And like most normal folks, I shied away from the desperate.

They’ll do anything to get your money.

They’ll coerce, lie, manipulate, or do other shady stuff.

But nothing good for you.

Of course, there are exceptions.

Folks actually wanting to deliver a decent service but are so desperate for money that they make stupid mistakes, lower themselves too much or present everything in ways that ring the alarm bells of users.

If you’re in such a situation, learn to act as if you do not care about the money.

The less desperate you feel, the less you show it, and customers don’t shy away.

Same for other areas like love.

Desperate for a loving partner?

It will show all over the place.

Your dates smell it and say nah.

And you never know if they are the one or if your desperation for a loving partner clouds your judgments.

Maybe you get em.

But do you see the real person then and love them because of your love for them?

Or because of your desperation.

And what will you do to keep that relationship alive?

At every turn, your desperation is there again.

Will you give in to desperation, doing stuff that is not good to you?

To sum it up, the more desperate you are, the further you push it away.

Everybody smells it.
