Thanks to a glitch in the matrix, you had a week more to think about your own risk aversion and how it affects you. Hopefully, you took the chance :-)
See, if you know how risk-averse you are, i’s becoming easier to choose the right actions for you. And more importantly, it becomes visible by moving from the subconsciousness to your consciousness.
Frankly, we do this assessment always, Most of the time we’re simply not aware of it.
With the consequences that we agonize over why certain things don’t work for us and why we are not moving towards our goals or whatever.
This brings me to the two big questions:
1. Is it fix or can I change my risk aversion?
2. Is it a single level across all my areas of life?
Let’s start backward.
It’s multiple levels and totally depends on the thing at hand. You can be a skydiving nut and jump delighted out of a plane but at the same time jumping from a bridge with a string attached to your ankles is above your threshold.
It also depends on how used we are to the thing or similar ones, our moods, current environment, etc.
So, yes, it can change too. Due to outer changes or, we change our perceptions, tolerances, or handling of fears, etc.
If you want to take action that is outside of your risk tolerance, you got essentially 3 options.
1. You don’t do it at all.
2. You force yourself to do it (by using willpower) and might
3. You upgrade your risk tolerance until doing X is in reach.
How?
Either by assessing the risks, how likely they are, what you actually fear, and what prevents you from doing X and mitigating the risks or negotiate with the subconscious part that raised the concerns.
Or, you do similar things that are slightly above your risk tolerance and slowly expand your reach.
Quite often it’s a combination of both.
And it makes no difference if it’s bungee jumping, walking outside during a thunderstorm, starting a business, going freelance, asking your boss for a raise, or the cute girl at the supermarket for her number.
It’s the same stuff for our brain.
