Streaks, setbacks & exceptions

I’ve been walking my daily 10k steps for around three and a half years now.

In a row.

Without skipping a day.

Until last Monday.

The universe, or so thought it’s funny to poke little Jens a bit and cause a two-way emergency purge.

Luckily, waking up on time to hit the ceramics.

Let’s leave it at that; no need for more details.

Of course, that was a goodbye to getting my 10k steps.

Which didn’t sit well with me. But in the end, the caring part of me won out in the discussion and gave permission. Health wins.

Surprisingly, I made them the next day, even though I was still feeling ugh.

But now I’m in a situation many face when they do the “don’t break the chain” thing.

You skipped a day.

Now, how do you deal with it?

Hardcore, and it broke the chain. So you have to start anew.

Or do you make an exception?

And if you make an exception, how long can those last? One day? Two days? 2 weeks?

For me, it broke, and it didn’t break at the same time.

Might not make sense to you, but it does to me.

What’s more important to me is that I got back up and continued.

And that this “exception” wasn’t due to laziness or whatever, but some random event sucking my health and physically preventing me from doing that time. And the skip helped with recovring so I got back up the next day.

In the end, you do it for yourself. So, do what feels right as long as you don’t cheat yourself.
