The power of fun

The Power of Fun is a book I found a few months ago via a business podcast.

I am looking for ways to bring playfulness back into everyday life, and the book looked like it could offer ideas.

During the Christmas slowdown, I read and then skimmed through it; it got too repetitive and strayed into “breaking up with your phone”, the author’s other pet peeve.

Her idea is that there’s True Fun, which is different from what we define as fun. A fleeting moment where folks feel alive that needs three parts to be present:

Playfulness, flow, and connection.

Playfulness means it must be joy and done out of pleasure without any force or goals, etc.

Flow is when we dive so deep into it that we forget time and everything around us.

And connection refers to connecting with your environment, mainly other people. Sometimes she says it’s possible to have it alone; sometimes she tells otherwise. So, pretty unclear. Just do what makes sense to you.

If you get all three, you’ve hit the jackpot with a fleeting experience of True Fun.

Yet, there’s no guarantee that it hits every time all your factors are checked.

The rest of the book, which I read or skimmed, is about finding out what factors make it possible for you to experience that true fun. And her straying away with phone addiction.

If you want more Fun in your life, you can give the book a shot.

If you don’t or are like me, just looking for playfulness, then it’s not for you. I like the True Fun idea, but it wasn’t what I was looking for. Neither did I find concrete tips or ideas for getting back that playfulness. So, my journey continues.

But maybe it’s for you and sparks fun.
