Today you’ll see if you guess right to last times question “Which of the 2 out of 7 hunger types are the ones you should eat”. And thanks to anybody sending in replies or using the feedback links :-)
Here are the types again as a quick reminder. Of course, I had a typo in it last time, as it’s heart hunger, not hear hunger. Anyway.
- Eye hunger
- Nose Hunger
- Stomach Hunger
- Mind hunger
- Cellular hunger
- Mouth hunger
- Heart hunger
And you should eat with:
-
Cellular hunger
-
Stomach hunger
Why?
Glad you asked, so let’s get started.
Cellular hunger is when your cells, your biological building blocks need resources and they are not available in your body. Your body needs those to function, otherwise, malnutrition and tons of problems will pain you.
Stomach hunger is when your stomach growls and tells you that your body needs more energy and you should provide that aka eat. However, not every little growl is a reason to eat. You don’t need to catch the next hot dog or snickers right away.
Why?
We humans are made for hunger periods and can go on for a while without any food. So, there’s no reason to stuff yourself every time your stomach growls. More on that next time.
Now to the others.
When you chill in your yard or on your balcony and see the neighbors getting ready for a BBQ, you’ll notice that your mind what to join and think about BBQing yourself (Mind hunger).
Once you see them putting burger patties, grill cheese or stuffed paprika on the grill your salvia will go wild (Eye hunger).
Now the smell of BBQ will reach you, like in classic cartoons, a little smoke cloud tickles your nose, and voila, you’d like to take a bit (Nose hunger).
Let say you can still resist, the neighbor comes over and gives a tiny bit to taste. You chew on it and suddenly you’d like to take over their BBQ. (Mouth hunger)
And in case you could resist all those temptations, you might end up sitting in your chair, remembering the last BBQ you had with all the fun and tasty foods, and you’ll do what you do when you are sad. You eat a cookie or a whole bag. (Heart hunger)
Next time I’ll talk about what you should do before you put anything in your mouth. Or if you want to skip the waiting time, grab a copy of our mindful eating book.
