Do you need goals?

Just watched a TikTok where the guy said like: “You need a clear goal or it’s like using a navigation system without entering where you want to go and just randomly cruising around”.

Nope, I thought to myself and just had to hop on the computer and write this email to share that with you.

Having and pursuing goals can work, but so does cruising around, doing random shit, and still accomplishing things.

Both have their value, time, and place.

And both don’t work for all the things.

The worst downside of having goals is not having goals but hearing everybody and their granny telling you need goals in life or you just waste away.

And that is not true.

You can have splendid life and reach a lot without having goals. Either by simply having good habits or by cruising around, testing random things, see what works and where life is opening doors for you.

Most of the things in life come at random anyways.

Not everything is plannable and clear as a goal.

Goals are great if you see a clear, measurable end and can aim for it. Just prepare for the hole at the end that will eventually come.

Cruising is especially great if you see too many options and/or have no clear ideas. Test around, see what works and if a door magically opens for you.

And don’t be afraid of closing doors. Usually others will open.

Let’s take loosing weight as an example.

With a goal approach, I’d set 10kg or stones (or bananas or whatever the imperial system uses :-) ) until summer because I want my beach body or at least not look like a stranded whale.

I might archive that. Depending on the time left maybe with drastic actions like 5 day fasting while having never fasted in your life before. Or stick to food that supposdely “good” for you but you essentially hate and can’t stay.

You reach your goal but then what?

The hole and the yo-yo effect.

You won’t stick with it and before you blick you gain the weight back. Twice.

Of course, there are exceptions but the majority is hit with the yo-yo effect.

With cruising around, I could start testing out a few diets and naturally find one that works for me and my biological vessel, lose wieght and improve my health in general. Who knows what all can happen.

Do I reach the 10kg till summer?

Probably not.

But I find more lasting changes and things I never knew of before.

Just remembeer that both have their time and place and do work. Pick it consciously and then go.
