Re: The dark side of labeling yourself

It’s been for almost ten years on my pile of “to read” books but I finally picked it up.

And guess what?

One of the first points in the book was about how people label themselves and how you can use that to get them to do stuff you want them to do.

The book is “How to Get People to Do Stuff” and is about how to persuade and motivate people.

And of course, everything in the book can be and is used for evil. So it’s essential to know that stuff to protect yourself.

In the book they used the term “the need to belong” instead of labeling as I did but it is the same.

One of the belongs is to belong to a group. And when they use a noun to describe themself as a part of the group, the magic happens.

A research experiment showed that more folks that saw themself as a “voter” instead of “I am going to vote” went ahead and actually voted the next day.

And that was just one experiment.

So, when you see yourself as an athlete it is more likely that you do the training.

Or see yourself as a “healthy eater” and you’re more likely to dump the industrial shit they call “food”.

Naturally, you need to keep a balance to not fall into the traps I mentioned in the previous email. Or you’re doomed and get exploited.

Food for thoughts.
